Suki's Apprenticeship Program If you are interested in learning hairdressing at a world class level, read on.
Suki's Apprenticeship Program is designed to fully prepare you for working in the salon business. To apply as an apprentice, you do not need to have any previous experience working in the hair industry, although many of our apprentices are graduates of basic hair school programs. We look to hire stylish, reliable, mature, and hard working individuals with great communication skills and a love of people.
Suki's apprentices work in the salon full time (40 hours a week) and are paid the going provincial minimum wage. Your duties will include assisting stylists and technicians with blowdries and colour applications, shampoos, cleaning, and laundry. In return, we will train you for free on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. These evenings are highly structured 2-3 hour classes that will teach you all the basics of colouring, texturizing, styling, and cutting hair.
The Apprenticeship Program is flexible and self-directed so that you may progress at your own speed. The average length of an apprenticeship at Suki's is two years. How long you work as an apprentice will depend on how hard working and talented you are. Simply put, the more you practice, the faster you will progress through our curriculum.
Towards the end of the Apprenticeship Program, you will decide whether you would like to specialize as a colour technician or as a stylist. Upon completion of the Program, you will attend Suki's Advanced Academy for a minimum of three months for intensive advanced training in your chosen area of speciality. This training will propel you to the highest levels of expertise in our industry (see our Education pages for more information). Student loans are available for the tuition cost associated with the Academy. Suki's does offer a 30% discount on the cost of the Academy to students who successfully complete the apprenticeship program.

The last step is the
Suki's Final Exam. For this gruelling test, you will spend two weeks
preparing the hair of 13 models. The looks will range from classically
beautiful to outrageously creative. On your exam date, you will present
all 13 models together to our company. Your presentation will showcase
the development of your skills and your personal style. Four of Suki's
most senior staff will examine each of your models for the
technicality, artistic ability, and suitability of each look. Students
who successfully pass the Final Exam are then hired as the newest member
of Suki's artistic team!
